Notre Dame football: Logan Diggs hurdles a Virginia defender (watch)
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football team is dominating the Virginia Cavaliers early on, and true freshman Logan Diggs made an incredible play in the first half.
During the first half of the Notre Dame football game against Virginia, we got to see just how athletic true freshman running back Logan Diggs is. The shifty back from Louisiana had his number called on a big third down in the first quarter, and all he did was make a run that is one nobody will be forgetting anytime soon.
Take a look at the incredible run here:
We have started to see more and more of Diggs in recent weeks, and really, we are starting to see the true freshman class of 2021 stepping up for the Irish. The future is bright in South Bend, and it will be players like Diggs and Lorenzo Styles Jr. that are future playmakers for this offense.
In Diggs, the Irish have a perfect complement to Kyren Williams, and having both he and Chris Tyree as depth backs makes this Irish running back group extremely dangerous. The drive was capped off by a tremendous catch by Braden Lenzy, who lept over a few Virginia defenders at the goal line for the score.
Notre Dame football looking to move to 9-1 on the season
With a win against the Cavaliers on Saturday night, the Irish will move to 9-1 on the season, and the way they have played recently, you have to think they should be in the mix for a College Football Playoff spot. They have work to do, but the offense is playing well, and Marcus Freeman has this defense playing at a high level, making them a tough out for any team that gets in their way.
There is still a lot of game left on Saturday night, but one thing is for sure, Diggs is starting to look like a future star for the Irish at running back. Kyren Williams is likely done in South Bend after this season, and if Diggs is the next man up, the Irish are certainly in good hands with him as the feature back.
