Notre Dame football: Brian Kelly reportedly headed to LSU
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football program got a shock on Monday night, as it was reported that Brian Kelly would take the job at LSU.
When it comes to head coaches for the Notre Dame football program, nobody has won more games than the current head coach, Brian Kelly. A stable presence for the program for 2010, Kelly has led the team to multiple double-digit win seasons and has put the program back to being one of the best in the country.
This season, the Irish struggled out of the gate, and many felt that they would be middle-of-the-pack in terms of finishing in the top-25. Instead, Notre Dame has been outstanding since their bye week, playing elite football on both sides of the ball, and possibly earning a College Football Playoff berth in the process.
Throughout it all, Kelly was seen as someone who could eventually lead this program to a national title, but on Monday night, that turned into a moot point. As reported by Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, Kelly is expected to leave Notre Dame for LSU, and an announcement could be made as early as tomorrow.
Notre Dame football losing a legend
While Kelly never won a national title at Notre Dame or had much success in bowl games, he is widely considered one of the greatest coaches in the history of the program. He has won ten or more games in five straight seasons and has posted a 92-39 record during his time at the helm.
While rumors swirled earlier in the day, there was no real source that it could actually happen, or if Kelly would be willing to leave a program that appears on the brink of being a national title contender moving forward. Until we hear from BK, or the announcement comes down, we will say this is reportedly going to happen, but as we have seen in the past, where there is smoke, there is usually fire.
