Notre Dame football: Irish 2022 recruiting class ranked in top-5
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football program has hit the recruiting trail hard, and currently has a top-5 recruiting class for the 2022 cycle.
In college football, recruiting is king, and for this Notre Dame football program, the latest recruiting cycles have been very fruitful. Since Marcus Freeman arrived as the defensive coordinator, the Irish have been picking up elite recruit, after elite recruit, and the program now has some incredible players coming in this offseason.
In 2021, the Irish finished with the No. 9-ranked recruiting class, and while it was not top-5, some players really stood out as true freshmen. While No. 9 is great for other programs, this is Notre Dame, where a top-5 recruiting class should be the standard.
As of December 13, 2021, Notre Dame football has the No. 5-ranked recruiting class for the 2022 cycle and has a legitimate chance to finish within the top-5 when all is said and done. They recently added 2022 offensive lineman Billy Schrauth, giving them a plethora of elite offensive line talent in that class, which will continue the trend of Notre Dame football being ‘offensive line U.’
Notre Dame football is in good hands with Freeman as head coach
The Irish made the right decision naming Marcus Freeman their head coach, as it not only was what the players currently on the roster wanted but also their recruits. When the news of Brian Kelly leaving was announced many recruits took to social media to put their support behind Freeman, and they have lost only one recruit in the process.
This is a class that could do some very special things in South Bend, and the Irish certainly have the right head coach steering the ship. The Notre Dame football team will kick off their 2022 season on the road against Ohio State, who has the No. 4 recruiting class per this rankings and just happens to be Freeman’s alma mater.
