The Notre Dame football team is off to a hot start against Oklahoma State, as Jack Coan is dicing up a very strong Cowboys secondary.

The Notre Dame football team is playing their first game with Marcus Freeman as head coach, and the early returns have been more than positive. The Irish are dominating the Oklahoma State Cowboys early on in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl, and most of it has to do with the arm of Jack Coan.

The graduate transfer has been outstanding for the Irish down the stretch of the regular season, and his strong play has continued in the bowl game. Notre Dame football has not been great in big-time bowl games, but all of that seems to be changing with Freeman at the helm, and Tommy Rees being very aggressive with his offensive playcalling.

Notre Dame football up 14-0 early on

Coan got the party started on the first drive, taking a shot downfield to Braden Lenzy which was incomplete, and then finding Lorenzo Styles Jr. over the middle for a long touchdown. After an Isaiah Foskey sack ended Oklahoma State’s first drive, Coan went back to work, this time hitting a wide-open Chris Tyree for a 53-yard score.

Through the first two drives for the Irish in this football game, Coan has connected on 8-of-10 passing for nearly 160 yards, and the two scores, picking apart this Cowboys defense.

The Irish are certainly going to miss Coan next season, but based on what we have seen from the young weapons around him, the Irish are going to be fine. We should get to see Tyler Buchner today as long as the Irish continue to roll, but based on his one season in South Bend, Coan was even better than advertised.

In what is his final game with the Irish, Coan may have saved his best for last.
