Notre Dame football: Tyler Buchner to be pushed for starting QB job in 2022

Who is coming in, and how this will shake out

Then there is the big-time prospect coming into South Bend this offseason, and that is former Bergen Catholic (NJ) quarterback Steve Angeli. Angeli has everything you look for in an elite quarterback at the next level, and it will be interesting to see if he can inch his way up the depth chart, and possibly get some playing time as a true freshman.

The best-case scenario for Angeli and the Irish would be Buchner winning the job, Angeli getting some playing time, but also being able to redshirt. Remember, the Irish also have their eyes set on several quarterbacks for the 2023 recruiting class as well, so the well certainly is not going to be dry in terms of this position group for a long time.

Whoever gets the starting job is in a good spot, as we saw Tommy Rees open up the passing game in the Fiesta Bowl, and there are some exciting wide receivers on this roster, as well as the best tight end in the country in Michael Mayer. My early prediction is that Buchner will win the starting job outright, and be a star in South Bend, with the players behind him pushing him to be an elite player when all is said and done.
