The Notre Dame football team may have lost Kyren Williams to the NFL, but they are loaded at the running back group heading into 2022.

The Notre Dame football team has lost arguably the best running back they’ve had in the last decade. The next man to step up will have big shoes to fill. Will it be Logan Diggs, Chris Tyree, or Audric Estime?

Chris Tyree has all the tools to be that man when it’s all said and done.

Kyren Williams declared for the 2022 NFL draft. So for the first time in two seasons, the Irish will have a competition to see who will be the teams starting running back. This competition will likely be between junior running back Chris Tyree and sophomore running back Logan Diggs.

With Audric Estime in the mix as well. The fan-favorite to win the job seems to be Diggs. However, people are sleeping on Tyree. Let me remind you just how good Chris Tyree was before getting injured last season.

Notre Dame football has a talent in Chris Tyree

Irish fans forget that Tyree was the number one all-purpose back (Via/247SPORTS) in the class of 2020. The former top-100 recruit made an instant impact at Notre Dame. As he totaled 561 yards and four touchdowns on offense his freshman year.

Despite dealing with a turf toe injury this past season. Tyree showed explosiveness returning a kickoff 96 yards for a Touchdown. As a sophomore Tyree totaled 480 yards of offense and three touchdowns. Now with Williams is gone, an expanded role should come next season.

The running back room is deep this season. Which will likely result in some sort of Committee between Diggs, Tyree, and even Estime.

All three are fantastic backs that could easily win the starting job for the Irish. However, don’t be surprised if the speedster Tyree wins the job outright. He is not just a receiving threat, but an all-around back. The opportunity is there for Tyree to show the college football world just how good he is.
