The Notre Dame football team got great play from Jack Coan in 2021, and he may have solidified his draft status in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

During the 2020 season, the Notre Dame football team got to have Ian Book as their starting quarterback one more time. The program’s all-time winningest signal-caller, Book helped his team to the College Football Playoff, capping off a remarkable career in South Bend.

Going into last year, who would replace him was the biggest question for the Irish, as they had brought Jack Coan in as a graduate transfer from Wisconsin, and had some younger players still on the roster. Coan ended up beating out the likes of Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne, earning the starting job, and he was outstanding for the Irish in 2021.

Leading the team to an 11-1 regular-season record, Coan then went on to throw for over 500 yards and five touchdowns in the Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma State. He was solid at Wisconsin, but elevated his game with the Irish, and is now in the process of improving his draft status heading into the 2022 NFL Draft.
