The Notre Dame football team seems to be the front-runner for 5-star 2023 QB Dante Moore, but would he start right away in South Bend?

Going into the 2022 college football season, the Notre Dame football team will be starting their third quarterback in as many years. Ian Book was the leader of this program for multiple seasons before declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft, and he was replaced by a graduate transfer last season.

Jack Coan, who had led the Wisconsin Badgers to a Big Ten title game, came in and instantly became a leader for the Irish, starting all 12 of their regular-season games. In the bowl game, his final with the team, he threw for over 500 yards and five touchdowns and is going to be a tough player to replace both on and off the field.

In 2022, the thought is Tyler Buchner, who got a bunch of playing time as a true freshman last season, will step into the starting role. He will have to beat out junior Drew Pyne, who served as Book’s back up a few years ago, and true freshman Steve Angeli, a top-20 quarterback prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.

Next year, he may have to stave off another true freshman.

Notre Dame football a favorite to land Dante Moore

As it stands, the Irish are the favorite to land five-star 2023 quarterback Dante Moore, the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan. If they can land Moore, the question becomes whether or not he could start for this team in Year 1, and it is certainly a possibility when you look at what he brings to the table.

For Buchner, putting together a standout 2022 campaign will go a long way to keeping Moore on the bench for the 2023 season, but will he be the only quarterback taking snaps this year. Pyne is no slouch, as he is a former four-star recruit, and Angeli comes to the program with a ton of hype as well.

If Buchner falters, and the Irish struggle to get consistent play from the quarterback spot, there is no doubt that Moore would get every chance to start right away in South Bend. Of course, they have to land him first, and if they do, it would be the top-rated quarterback commit the Irish have gotten in quite some time.
