Notre Dame basketball: MBB dominates Georgia Tech, clinches top-4 ACC seed
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame basketball team continues to roll in 2021-22, this time dominating Georgia Tech, and clinching a top-4 seed in the ACC Tournament.
For the Notre Dame basketball team, they knew they needed to close the regular season on a high note after their road loss to Wake Forest a week ago. Playing four beatable teams, with three of those games at home, the Irish were favored to finish out 4-0 and post a 23-8 regular season, and a high seed in the ACC Tournament.
On Saturday, they completed half of the puzzle, dominating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from the tip, and clinching a top-4 seed in the ACC Tournament. What that means for the Irish is that they have an automatic bid to the conference tournament’s quarterfinals, setting them up for a possible run at the conference title.
It was another total team effort from this Irish roster on Saturday night, as Dane Goodwin and Blake Wesley led the way scoring. The Irish were money from beyond the arc in the first half, and that good fortune carried into the second half, as the Notre Dame basketball team showed why they are considered one of the best teams in the ACC, and the Yellow Jackets are not, winning 90-56.
Notre Dame basketball travels to Florida State next
In their last road game of the regular season, the Notre Dame basketball team will travel to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles. This will be the first matchup of these two teams this season, and the Irish are likely to be big favorites in that one as well.
Mike Brey and his team are built for a tournament run, as they possess a nice blend of veteran players, as well as a star in the true freshman, Wesley. They also are dangerous from the outside, and every March, it seems like the team that can fill it up beyond the three-point line makes a legitimate run.
For now, the key will be closing out the regular season strong and making a deep run in the ACC Tournament. That will lock up a single-digit seed for the Irish, and put them in a position to get out of the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, and possibly a Sweet 16 berth.
