The Notre Dame football team needs to figure out who their starting QB will be in 2022, but there are more questions than that to answer on that side of the ball.

The 2022 Notre Dame football team will certainly be one of the best in the country, as they have elite playmakers on both sides of the ball. The defense is loaded with talent, especially with both Isaiah Foskey and Cam Hart forgoing the 2022 NFL Draft and returning to South Bend.

With veteran talent on all three levels, and potential draft picks across the starting lineup, the defense should be one of the best in the country. When you add the fact that head coach Marcus Freeman is a defensive genius, you have to think opposing offenses are going to have their work cut out for them against the Irish in 2022.

Notre Dame football has questions on offense

On the offense, questions remain, and while the quarterback is the biggest one, there are issues all over the place. The wide receiver room has talent, but a lack of bodies, and we still do not know who the RB1 will be with Kyren Williams leaving for the NFL.

Along the offensive line, all starters are back from 2021, including Jarrett Patterson, who would have been a Day 2 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, Rocco Spindler was a top 2021 recruit, and many felt he would start in Year 1, but he will be fighting for a starting job as a true sophomore in 2022, especially with Andrew Kristofic stepping up last season, and Josh Lugg returning.

The tight end position is set, as Michael Mayer is the best tight end in the country in my opinion, and has a ton of talent behind him. Kevin Bauman was in his same recruiting class and is a freak athlete, so I believe he will break out in 2022 as Mayer’s backup, and become a star next season.

Overall, offensive line, wide receiver, running back, and tight end have questions heading into spring practices and will have to be worked out as we move towards the summer months. Quarterback is going to be the position that dominates the storyline all spring and summer, but the questions on offense go way beyond just Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne fighting to be QB1.
