The Notre Dame football team is lacking in depth at wide receiver in 2022, but all of that could change in a hurry for the 2023 college football season.

The 2022 recruiting class for the Notre Dame football program was supposed to bring in three talented wide receivers, though only one ended up committing. That player was Tobias Merriweather, a four-star recruit who figures to be atop the Irish depth chart at one of the three wideout spots in no time.

In 2022, Notre Dame football has talent at the wide receiver position, but they do not have the numbers. Plus, the position group has been ravaged by injuries this offseason, so it will be interesting to see how things shape out this upcoming season.

While the depth may be small in 2022, the Irish could change the narrative in a big way starting next season.

Notre Dame football targeting elite WRs in 2023 recruiting class

There are some young and talented wideouts on the 2022 roster, including Lorenzo Styles Jr., who broke out in a big way last season. Jayden Thomas and Deion Colzie are two other sophomores who figure to be in the mix in 2022, so it is not like there is a lack of talent, just a lack of numbers.

Already for the 2023 class, the Irish have added Braylon James, a four-star talent and one of the best wideouts in the country. However, that has not stopped Marcus Freeman and his staff from focusing in on this position group, as they are in the mix for Texas star Jaden Greathouse, who they recently got a crystal ball prediction for.

The hope is that the Irish can add at least three top-level wideout recruits this offseason, bolstering a position group that will be young, but talented in 2023.

Notre Dame football is also in the mix for quarterback Dante Moore, one of the best players in the country, and someone who could make the Irish an even more desirable landing spot. Overall, the wide receiver position could be a strength in 2023 and beyond, especially with how well Chansi Stucki is recruiting so far.
