The Notre Dame football team continues to stack talent for their 2023 recruiting class, this time bringing in a speedy cornerback in Micah Bell.

The Notre Dame football program continues their commitment streak, this time with 2023 defensive back Micah Bell out of Texas committing to the Irish Friday evening. Like his new teammate who committed yesterday in Charles Jagusah, he is very very big on education and life after football.

Once the Irish offered Bell back in March they were going to be hard to beat. Then he visited South Bend for his official in June and all beats were off. He was ready to make his decision and Notre Dame football was that choice.

The relationship being built was just the cherry on top and he didn’t want to wait any longer. At the moment, Bell holds 29 offers from the likes of Vanderbilt, Florida,  Stanford, Michigan and many others.

What will Micah Bell bring to the Notre Dame football team?

The 5’11 160-pound defensive back will be bringing speed, speed, and more speed, and I’m not exaggerating. He’s an outstanding track athlete, running a 10.4 in the 100m dash. Athleticism runs in his family as well, being the younger brother of 2022 Georgia wide receiver signee Dillon Bell.

Outside of his speed and athleticism he has great instincts in the secondary. The Irish seem to want him at cornerback and that seems to be where he fits best. He plays both ways in high school, running back on offense but the staff definitely loves him in the secondary.

Personally I think he could make waves and have a niche in the nickel position for the Irish defense, a little bit like Shaun Crawford did. He breaks well on the ball and uses his hands when he’s defending. Flexibility with his hips is key with his type of speed and he does well with flipping his hips when running with receivers.

With Bell making his commitment, the Irish now have 17 pledges with 8 on offense and now 9 on the defensive side of the ball. Bell will be joining Peyton Bowen and Adon Shuler in the secondary, with both of them projected to play safety. I’d expect the staff to add at least one more cornerback recruit to go along side Bell and that could happen in the very near future.

Defensive back coaches Mike Mickens and Chris O’Leary have done an outstanding job in the recruiting depart. Add Marcus freeman in the fold and it’s really hard to turn away Notre Dame right now if you’re a recruit. That’s definitely showing with the staff holding the number one class in 2023 and 2024 right now. It’s not done either Irish fans..
