Notre Dame football: 2022 front-seven one of the best in the country
By Brad Weiss
One of the strengths of the Notre Dame football team in 2022 will be the front-seven on defense, a group that features elite talent.
Looking ahead to the 2022 college football season, the Notre Dame football team has a lot of areas they need to address. They still do not know who the quarterback will be, there are depth issues at wide receiver and running back, and the defensive backfield will need players to step up in a big way.
However, one area the Irish should be more than fine in is the front-seven on defense, a group that makes up the defensive line and linebacker units. Isaiah Foskey is one of the better edge rushers in the country, there are veterans all over the linebacker position group, and the interior of the defensive line should be able to get more than enough pressure.
Games are won and lost in the trenches, and for the 2022 Notre Dame football team, both the defensive and offensive lines are some of the best in the country.
Also, Marcus Freeman is a genius when it comes to coaching up the linebackers, and in 2022, he has a deep group that includes veterans who have played in some huge games in their careers, and younger players on the verge of breaking out.
Notre Dame football an Honorable Mention front-seven
Barrett Sallee from CBSSports.com recently put together his top-5 ranking for all of the front-seven groups in college football, and while the Irish did not make the cut, they were listed as Honorable Mention.
2022 opponent Clemson was the No. 1 unit, led by Myles Murphy and company, while the Alabama Crimson Tide came in at No. 2. The Washington Huskies have a lot of talent returning up front in 2022, and they are the No. 3 ranked team, followed by Baylor and Oklahoma State, who beat the Notre Dame football team in the Fiesta Bowl last season.
Of the Honorable Mention groups, there are some powerhouse programs, including Georgia, the Irish, and Michigan.
This front-seven will have a tall task ahead of them in Week 1, as they plan to shut down Ohio State and Heisman Trophy candidate CJ Stroud. They have the talent to do just that, and if they do, the sky could be the limit for this 2022 Notre Dame football team.
