With Notre Dame football officially moving forward from recruiting the class of 2023, they’re off to a hot start in the class of 2024. While the offensive side of the ball is in a better spot, they’re also gaining some traction on defense.

With 5-star quarterback CJ Carr one of the first commits the Irish landed in the class of 2024, the program got off to a great start. Most recruiting classes at most schools will have a student-athlete who steps up and leads the charge to help recruit fellow players. Having it be a 5-star quarterback that sees the vision and can help guide other recruits is the best thing that Notre Dame football could ask for.

It’s not CJ’s job, but having someone willing to reach out and share the academic and athletic vision is always a plus. Since his commitment, Notre Dame has landed standouts at multiple offensive positions, including wide receiver, tight end, and running back. Jack Larsen, a top-10 tight end out of North Carolina, committed a couple of weeks after CJ. Following that, just 5 days later, a top 50 recruit, WR Cam Williams, committed to join a powerful group on offense.

If you ask me, Notre Dame football commit Cam Williams is the best wide receiver in the entire class

Just over a week ago, Deland McCullough landed a commitment from a guy who should be much higher on most recruiting boards in Aneyas Williams. He reminds me of Kyren Williams’s running style but with more straight-line speed. So yeah, those are some big shoes to fill, but he can definitely do it.

Notre Dame also has IOL Peter Jones, edge Owen Wafle, and cornerback Karson Hobbs. Most of these guys could climb in the rankings, but none more so than Karson. Hobbs truly has some elite talent, and he’s one of the guys to keep an eye on to make a massive jump in the recruiting rankings.

There will be new commitments and de-commitments from the class. That’s just the way recruiting is these days. Notre Dame can’t put all their eggs in one basket, and the coaches did a great job mitigating that potential pitfall this year. Say what you will about some of the misses, but their kids at those positions are outstanding.

Notre Dame is off to a hot start, with enough momentum to easily finish in the top 10 for recruiting classes again next year. The question is, will they be able to push it to a top 5 or better class? With Marcus Freeman at the helm, anything is possible.
