Notre Dame football has been hitting the recruiting trail hard for the class of 2024 and has recently offered a multi-sport recruit. Daniel Freitag is rated as the number-one basketball recruit in Minnesota but has also been getting a lot of offers to play football at the next level.

Freitag is a 6’2″, 175-pound point guard from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who has been getting many offers for both football and basketball. While it’s hard to find a source that separates the two sports, he has various offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Baylor, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia, Nebraska, and of course, Notre Dame. It’s tough to say precisely how they’re recruiting him and for which position, but I’d venture to guess he’ll be labeled an athlete in football.

Tom Loy gave a tidbit of information on Irish Illustrated about top recruit Justin Scott and that Al Washington would attend his basketball game last night. While it remains to be seen if that was the case or what comes of the January 31st commitment date he set, the Irish are still recruiting him hard. The staff has been out on the road the past few weeks, recruiting nationwide.

Outside of Justin Scott’s potential commitment in less than a couple of weeks, no Irish targets for football or basketball have pending commitment dates. However, multiple offers have been sent out via the Notre Dame football staff. Terrance Moore, Darien Mayo, Josiah Ko’o Kia, LJ McCray, and Jeremiah Newcombe have received offers in the past week. However, nothing from any of the recruits is imminent outside of a visit being lined up by Mayo.

Darien Mayo is a massive 6’7″ 250-pound edge out of Good Counsel in Olney, Maryland. The same school that has produced Notre Dame products Cam Hart and Sam Mustipher and also has graduated Stefon Diggs and Kendall Fuller, to name a couple. The Irish staff has strong connections to the school and seem to be positioned well here.

I haven’t seen legitimate offers for replacements to take over for Mike Brey at the end of this season. We’ll let you know when we hear something about potential head coaching candidates for the men’s basketball squad.
