Notre Dame football commit Micah Gilbert showed off exactly why the Fighting Irish are excited to get the wide receiver on campus next year.

There’s a reason the Notre Dame football team has one of the best 2024 recruiting classes in the country. The Fighting Irish has some serious talent that’s going to be contributors on the college stage in the very near future.

Among the members of the Notre Dame football 2024 recruiting class that could be a big contributor early on is wide receiver Micah Gilbert. He showed off why he looks like someone who could contribute next year on Friday night, even if he did it at a position he likely won’t be playing in South Bend.

Micah Gilbert’s Charlotte Christian took on Michigan quarterback commit Jadyn Davis’s Providence Day on Friday night. The two FBS commits just happen to both play in the state of North Carolina and their schools faced off on Friday night.

While Gilbert is going to be joining the Notre Dame football program as a wide receiver, he’s a heck of a two-way athlete who has some serious talent as a defensive back. If his ability to make defenders miss wasn’t next level, it’s possible the Fighting Irish could have looked at Gilbert for their secondary.

Notre Dame football star goes off

When Gilbert’s team went up against Davis’s squad, it was the Notre Dame football commit that won the day in a big way.

In fact, Gilbert intercepted Davis twice. In total, Gilbert’s team intercepted the future Michigan Wolverine quarterback three times on the night. That was all in the first half. It was one of those nights that can make people wonder whether the four stars that were given to Jadyn Davis might have been a bit of an overreaction.

On the other hand, Notre Dame football fans have got to be pretty happy about the way he played on Friday night, and that wasn’t even on the offensive side of the ball. Gilbert once again showed why Fighting Irish fans should be excited to see the kid come to campus next fall.
