Ex-Notre Dame Football star Mike Goolsby has quite a problem with professional women’s soccer player Megan Rapinoe and her take on religion.

Goolsby is not afraid to share his opinion on a wide number of topics. The former Notre Dame Football captain has a podcast he regularly appears on where he’s been known even to roast the Fighting Irish head coach.

Knowing that, it should surprise no one at all that Goolsby was quick to offer his opinion on former United States Women’s National Team soccer star Megan Rapinoe when she recently made a crack about an injury that ended her career.

In the sixth minute of the match between Rapinoe’s OL Reign and Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League Championship, Rapinoe hit the ground in obvious pain. The soccer star said she thinks it’s because she has a torn Achilles.

Speaking after the game and lamenting how her career ended, Rapinoe made a joke that didn’t sit well at all with Goolsby.

“I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, like, this is proof that there isn’t,” said Rapinoe. “This is f— up. It’s just f—. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.”

For his part, Goolsby started his comments using a familiar refrain when someone doesn’t like that an athlete offered an opinion on anything other than sports.

"“Shut up and dribble…This woman (assuming I’m not misgendering her) is vile. God doesn’t exist…in the next breath she’ll tweet ‘pray for Ukraine.’ Who you praying to?! Awful person. Worse role model.”"

The former Notre Dame Football star did take a little criticism of his own because of his comments.

“Hi, Mike, love your blue and gold show. Sounding a little MAGA stir crazy on this tweet,” one follower wrote to him on Twitter.

The former linebacker and captain of his Notre Dame Football team shot back, clearly not feeling as if anything he said was out of line.

“Because I believe in God? I may even be what some may call a ‘conservative’ (the horror!!!)”
