#18 Notre Dame Football looks to avenge last season’s ugly home loss as they travel to Stanford Stadium to take on the Caridnal on Saturday evening.

There are two ways to look at Saturday’s early evening — or afternoon — road game at Stanford. Either it is a reflection of what could have been, or it could be an opportunity for revenge. Last season, the Cardinal won a horrid game in South Bend 16-14. Notre Dame football Head coach Marcus Freeman would certainly enjoy beating Stanford on The Farm after one of the worst losses in his early tenure.

The Fighting Irish come to Palo Alto winners of three of its last four games, scoring over 45 points in each of those three wins. Despite not playing to solidify a Playoff berth or a New Year’s Six Bowl, Notre Dame (8-3) could have its seventh ten-win season in nine years and its first under Marcus Freeman.

Stanford  (3-8) has struggled under first-year head coach Troy Taylor. They’ve lost four of five games, which indicates how inconsistently they’ve played. The Cardinal were competitive against Washington and Washington State but blown out by Oregon State.

Analyzing the Odds

Notre Dame football keys to victory

The route to victory is simple. Notre Dame is the better team with the better roster, and they are playing better football. Though the Irish might not be incentivized to play, Freeman and his staff have to get his squad ready to play.

Sam Hartman should have a big game against a leaky Stanford secondary. The Cardinal are 129th in passing yards allowed. They aren’t much better against the run, ranking 52nd in the country. Notre Dame football needs to come out aggressively on both sides of the ball and end this game early.
