Ex-Notre Dame football star continues surprise stellar season
Ex-Notre Dame football star Kyren Wiliams is starting to look like he might be one of the best young running backs in the NFL after Sunday’s performance.
Notre Dame loves to consider itself “Tight End U,” but it looks like they might also need to be called “Running Back U” if Kyren Willams has anything to say about it.
The former Notre Dame football star is having an NFL season to remember, despite missing several weeks in the middle of the year with an injury. If Williams had his say, it’s likely that he’d ask to play the Arizona Cardinals as often as possible.
That’s because, thanks to the quirk of the schedule and his injury, his last two games have both been against the Cards. And in both games, he rushed for more than 140 yards and helped lead the Los Angeles Rams to victory.
This past Sunday, Kyren Williams showed that not only can he be one of the more dominant running backs in the league, given the chance, but he can also hurt teams through the air.
In addition to his 143 yards on 16 carries (8.9 YPC) he also hauled down 6 catches for 61 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Rams won the game 37-14 marking the second time the team has blown out their division rival with Williams in the lineup.
The last time he was able to play, the Rams beat Arizona 26-9 and Williams exploded for a career-high 158 yards and a touchdown.
Ex-Notre Dame football star putting together surprise season
Kyren Williams’ 2023 campaign continues to come out of nowhere, considering that while he played in 10 games a year ago, he rushed for just 139 yards.
This year, in 7 games he already has 599 yards and 6 touchdowns. He’s also got 19 catches for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Williams post-Notre Dame football performance might be a bit of a surprise but maybe it shouldn’t be.
While he never racked up eye-popping numbers, he did have back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons in South Bend. He’s now staking a claim for Running Back U that could be bolstered next year should Audric “Baby Bus” Estime make the jump and shine in the NFL.
