Notre Dame football nabs transfer portal corner
The Notre Dame football team landed its first transfer portal commit of the season as a former Arizona State defender is headed to South Bend.
The transfer portal only just opened officially on Monday but Notre Dame football already has an addition to its roster for the 2024 season. Defensive back Jordan Clark, who is a graduate transfer and therefore able to move a bit quicker than others, has decided to leave Tempe and come to South Bend.
Clark is a corner who played the 2023 season with an Arizona State squad is quite a mess, so it’s not a huge shock that he wanted to depart the Sun Devils. However, it is interesting that Clark decided rather quickly that Notre Dame is where the multi-year starter wanted to continue his college football career.
Over the course of his ASU career, Clark notched 139 career tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 17 pass breakups and three interceptions. This past season he tallied 50 tackles and 9 pass break ups which were both career highs. In 2022 he had his career high two interceptions in one season.
All of that is to say that the Notre Dame football team managed to land a talented player that has certainly seem some serious growth in the last two seasons.
Notre Dame football lands Arizona State transfer
Clark has been a slot defender for most of his career and it stands to reason that’s where he’ll be playing for the Fighting Irish. That means it’s the second straight year that Marcus Freeman went to the transfer portal in order to fill that defensive position.
Last year, Thomas Harper was brought in from Oklahoma State and promptly put up career highs in tackles (39), pass breakups (3) and sacks (2). He’s now moving on and it appears that Al Golden and company have got their replacement.
Jordan Clark is almost certainly the first of what could be several transfer portal pickups. The question is when will the Notre Dame football team officially haul in the quarterback everyone is expecting.
