The Notre Dame football team did all it needed to do in order stay in the College Football Playoff field. The Irish took care of business and then some, beating up on Florida State 52-3. Now it's up to the men in charge of the playoff rankings to show they understand Marcus Freeman's squad is one of the best in the country.

Other teams, such as Miami and Georgia didn't understand the assignment. They weren't able to beat lesser opponents. The Hurricanes, especially fell to Georgia Tech.

The good news for them is that the ACC is not a particularly strong conference. Despite the loss to an unranked opponent, they could still win the conference and still get a top seed in the College Football Playoff. That of course, is the problem with Notre Dame Football not being a part of a conference.

Notre Dame Football fans aren't going to happy that the Irish dropped a spot despite a 49-point win. However, Indiana continues to impress and it's possible the committtee likes what the Hoosiers offer more than the Irish do.

The important part is that the seeding in the College Football Playoff field is that they would host a home game and if this projection proves correct and if the season ended today, it would mean the Blue and Gold would host the Alabama Crimson Tide.

That would certainly be one heck of a tilt for a December showdown between two Blue Chip programs. Notre Dame Football could do a lot worse.
