The Notre Dame football team didn't see much benefit from their win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. However, it looks like the team is at least solidifying its standing for the College Football Playoffs.

The Irish are only ranked 11th and 12th in the new polls. But they also have a game against the upstart Navy Midshipmen. Should they win that game, they'll have another win against another ranked team.

So for now, the Notre Dame football team looks headed to the college football playoffs. Even as some other teams keep showing that they don't really belong. The sport is seeing quite a bit of turnover every week. And the big powers don't look all that powerful.

Notre Dame is going to have problems moving up the rankings. The conference teams are going to be the ones that get those top spots. Especially with a schedule that doesn't really have any great teams on the list.

Any chance that the Irish would play a highly ranked team ended when USC decided to have yet another awful season. Their loss to Maryland this weekend means they're 3-4 on the year and may not even make a bowl.

The good news there is that Notre Dame football could be the team that makes sure the Trojans don't see a postseason.

Meanwhile Riley Leonard, Marcus Freeman and company are fighting for their postseason berth. The good news is that it looks like they will be making the college football playoffs when the smoke clears.
