After gaining a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction to Notre Dame a little over a week ago, a decision from four-star quarterback Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV is coming soon. Monds has set his commitment date for Friday, May 1, when he will choose between Notre Dame, Florida State, and Ohio State.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman could add another top-rated quarterback to his future recruiting classes with a commitment from Monds on Friday.

4-star Champ Monds could give Marcus Freeman his elite 2027 quarterback

The prediction that Monds would land at Notre Dame was big for the Irish and Marcus Freeman for many reasons. The biggest is that Monds was originally set to be in the Class of 2028 before reclassifying to the Class of 2027.

This is big because Freeman's original quarterback in the Class of 2027, Teddy Jarrard, reclassified as well to land in the Class of 2026. That was good news for the Irish as JArrard will be on campus sooner, learning from CJ Carr, potentially lining him up to be Notre Dame's future starter.

Monds was ranked even higher in the Class of 2028 than he is in the Class of 2027, but the thought of playing earlier is what intrigued him, hence the prediction to Notre Dame. When Carr won the starting job, he was just a redshirt freshman, proving Freeman isn't afraid to go with youth and talent over experience.

It won't be an easy battle as Notre Dame is up against big programs like Florida State and Ohio State, who don't have quite as crowded a quarterback room as Notre Dame. The Irish already have Carr and Jarrard, and the youngster is ready for a competition before he is even on campus in South Bend.

Now, Carr could be NFL-bound after the 2026 season, which could open things up for Monds in terms of competing for a starting spot, but if not, he would almost definitely be sitting another season with Carr leading the way.

All eyes will be on Monds when he commits on Friday with the hopes of him choosing Notre Dame.
