Injuries couldn’t hold back Benjamin Morrison, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made him a second-round pick.

If former Notre Dame football corner Benjamin Morrison was worried he might slip to the third round, the Tampa Bay Bucs assuaged those fears. Morrison who has been telling anyone who would listen, that he was healthy and ready to go.

Despite those assurances, the former Fighting Irish star was almost certainly a first round pick if he didn’t suffer a torn labrum in his hip in the middle of the 2024 season. But all of that is behind him as he’ll now get to reward Tampa by finally calling his name.

Benjamin Morrison gets his NFL shot as Tampa Bay bets on his full recovery

The former Notre Dame football star was officially the No. 53 pick in this year’s NFL draft and was the fifth cornerback selected in the first two rounds.

Interestingly enough, Morrison was the second straight cornerback to be taken a bit later than anyone would have expected when the 2024 season kicked off. Just a few selections ahead of him, rival Michigan’s Will Johnson was taken by the Arizona Cardinals.

In getting Morrison, they are taking someone who was one of the best cover corners in college football when he was healthy. He’s also a leader who his Fighting Irish teammates looked up to and leaned on.

Bmoe also exploded onto the scene, racking up 33 tackles and 6 interceptions in his freshman season. The next year, with teams finally realizing he wasn’t someone to throw to, he still had 3 INTs and 10 passes defended.

Last year he appeared in just six games, but still managed to amass 20 tackles and 4 passes defended.

The Notre Dame football veteran has been working hard to come back from his hip injury this offseason. Just a few days ago he held a private workout for several teams. It appears that workout convinced the Tampa Bay Bucs he was the right pick to boost an already solid defense.
