'I don't care if they had Carson Beck,' Notre Dame will beat Georgia, analyst says

One CBS Sports analyst is plenty confident that the Notre Dame football team didn't need Carson Beck's injury to win the Sugar Bowl.

Carson Beck missing the Sugar Bowl has had some Notre Dame football faithful more confident that the Irish can handle the Georgia Bulldogs next week. However, there is at least one CBS Sports analyst who believes Beck’s injury isn’t a game changer, because ND would have won the game no matter if the starting quarterback had played or not.

Emory Hunt appeared on CBS Sports HQ earlier this week among a panel of hosts who were previewing the second round of the College Football Playoffs. During that appearance he said the “quiet part out loud.”

Hunt said that he didn’t care that Beck was hurt. He has confidence Notre Dame football is too good on both sides of the football to get beat by the Bulldogs anyway.

Notre Dame football gets vote of confidence in Sugar Bowl

“I don’t care if they had Carson Beck, Notre Dame is going to beat Georgia,” Hunt started his comments. “Notre Dame is great on both sides of the line of scrimmage, they can run the football, they can shut down your passing game, and we saw Beck in that passing game struggle, because Georgia’s receivers are not the usual suspects.”

“So this matchup is a bad one for Georgia,” Hunt continued. “I don’t care if Gunnar Stockton is out there, Carson Beck, Stetson Bennett with another year … Aaron Murray, Buck Blue… anybody, it doesn’t matter. Line em up, they don’t have the receivers … they just don’t match up well vs Notre Dame.”

Hunt ended the segment saying he believed the Notre Dame football team is on a mission and that they want to go down to the Sugar Bowl and show everyone who they are. I think we can all agree that we hope the CBS Sports analyst is right. We’ll find out on New Year’s Day.
