Now that the Notre Dame football team is officially hosting the new 12-team College Football Playoffs field opening round, it’s time to talk about a stigma surrounding its fan base. That stigma is that despite Notre Dame Stadium being a large venue with faithful fans, it’s not precisely where opponents fear to tread.

For one reason or another, Fighting Irish fans tend to take flack for the noise level in the stadium. And CBS analyst and former ND player was the latest to fire a few shots at the home field crowd.

Taylor first said that the key to the game is whether or not the Notre Dame football team’s running game can continue to be successful against Indiana. And then he launched into his tirade against the fans.

CBS Analyst Aaron Taylor rips Notre Dame football fans a new one

“But here's my gripe with Irish fans, “Taylor began. “They're just not loud. It's not loud in that stadium. And I don't think Irish fans can be loud in that stadium. And it's really embarrassing as an alumnus of how quiet it's been in that stadium.”

He then dropped a bombshell that certainly passes as one of the worst takes on the Irish’s chances of winning.

“I wouldn't be surprised if Indiana beat us because it's so quiet in there.”

It’s worth pointing out that Taylor’s studio mates all believed that the former Notre Dame football great was actually throwing down a bit of a gauntlet. Rather than simply griping about the team, it seems possible he’s hoping the fans in South Bend will rise to the occasion.
