CBS' way-too-early CFP prediction has Notre Dame No. 2 behind hated rival

Notre Dame is gaining some respect in early 2026 rankings for college football, but another rival is getting more.

The Catholics vs. Conflicts rivalry seems to be burning hotter than ever after the 2025 college football season. After Notre Dame was beaten by Miami early in the season, and then snubbed out of their College Football Playoff spot in favor of the Hurricanes, these teams could not hate each other more at this point.

Miami continued to take shots at Notre Dame, even after the Irish were done with their season, and the Hurricanes were moving on, while some Notre Dame players took some shots after Miami lost in the National Championship.

Both teams are now already doing the offseason work to be ready for the 2026 football season, but more importantly, their rematch in November. It should be an electric game that could affect some rankings in the College Football Playoff.

CBS Sports has recently released its way-too-early predictions for the 2026 College Football Playoff, and Notre Dame is gaining a lot of respect, but they are behind one team they will refuse to lose to next season.

Notre Dame ranked behind Miami in way-too-early CFP predictions just feels like a joke

Notre Dame is basically guaranteed a spot in the College Football Playoff next season with a favorable schedule and the new rule that gives them an auto-bid as long as they are ranked in the Top 12 of the final CFP rankings. It makes sense that CBS Sports would have them in the prediction, but they certainly gained a lot of respect being ranked No. 2.

The Miami Hurricanes are ranked in the No. 1 spot, which seems a little much, especially with the amount of change they are going through this next season. They were able to get former Duke and Tulane quarterback Darian Mensah, but he will be joining his third program in three years.

It seems a little ridiculous to have Miami at No. 1 in the College Football Playoff next season, but all of that will be settled in the matchup in November.
