Not that long ago, it seemed like the future was going to be bright for 5-star quarterback Deuce Knight, as he was once a Notre Dame commit and South Bend-bound. However, he decommitted in early October of 2024, breaking hearts everywhere.

Notre Dame emerges as a top landing spot for coveted transfer WR

Eventually, Knight signed with Auburn to play for Hugh Freeze in the SEC, but things did not go to plan there. Freeze was fired and Alex Golesh has since taken over the program. Well, after losing Cam Coleman to the transfer portal, Knight is making the same move. That's right, breaking news just came in that the talented lefty is saying goodbye to Auburn this offseason:

Deuce Knight deciding to transfer from Auburn has caught everyone off guard

This really feels like a stunner. Knight was widely considered the future for the Auburn program and its fans were hoping that Golesh would be able to sell him on a solid plan of attack for him moving forward. Instead, it looks like their meetings did not go well, with Knight headed out the door.

Where will he end up playing next? All signs point to Knight looking for immediate playing time. That will of course quickly rule out the idea of him making the move to South Bend after all, as Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame are ready for CJ Carr to put on a show in Year 2 as the starter in 2026.

Carr was downright fantastic for the Fighting Irish in his debut season leading the ND offense, throwing for 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns. Already, he's getting Heisman Trophy hype for next season, as expectations are going to be through the roof for him.

As for Knight, he's now going to be getting ready to find a different place to call home, which no one expected to happen so fast for him early on in his college career. While we don't know where he'll be heading next, it's safe to say that we do know he won't be playing for Freeman and Co. come next fall.
