Now that the Notre Dame football team has its quarterback, there are plenty of people who are talking about how surprised they were that CJ Carr won the job over Kenny Minchey. It's not that they don't believe Carr deserved the job, but the fight was close enough that Minchey seemed like the leader in the clubhouse.

There are many, many concerns about the Irish now that the starter has been named. Not the least of which is how the redshirt freshman will perform against a schedule that has plenty of tough opponents. However, former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book doesn't have any worries at all. He's on the record as saying he thinks either guy can do the job and do it well.

Former Notre Dame football QB has supreme confidence in both quarterbacks

"I think both these guys throw the ball really well," Book said about both Notre Dame football quarterbacks on an episode of The Echoes podcast.

"They both throw the ball better than I think I threw the ball back then. Their arm strength, arm angles, arm path, and ability to throw off schedule to me is pretty good. They're both athletic, which is awesome. I think they can get out of trouble if they need to. And then, you know, I feel like they've done a really good job of being leaders, like stepping up."

"You got to show the rest of the offense you're confident. They've done a good job of taking over the huddle. They could both go down and beat Miami. I do believe that."

The hope, of course, is that Book is right. CJ Carr is learning on the job against one of the best teams in the country. The Notre Dame football team will need him to step up quickly.
