Notre Dame women's basketball is thanking their lucky stars for junior guard Hannah Hidalgo, who is quietly putting together the best women's basketball career in program history. In just two and a half seasons, Hidalgo has accomplished things many couldn't in four years in South Bend.
In Notre Dame's 74-66 take down of Miami on Thursday night, Hidalgo did something that many may not have noticed, but is truly a big accomplishment at this point in her career. Hidalgo became the fastest player to 2,000 points in ACC basketball history, and she broke the Notre Dame career steals record.
Hidalgo passed Skylar Diggins with her 10-steal game against Miami, six of them in the second half, and now sits at 388 career steals. It should be noted that Hidalgo is only halfway through her third season with Notre Dame, and Diggins played four years with the Irish to reach 381 career steals.

Hannah Hidalgo is a walking bucket and this stat proves that
Not only has Hannah Hidalgo's defense been a highlight of her college career, but her ability to score is another. Hidalgo is so good on defense, getting those steals, but she also turns that into points on the other end most times.
Right now, Hidalgo is averaging 24.6 points per game, her highest in her career thus far, but the more impressive stat is that in two and a half seasons so far, Hidalgo has never had a game where she didn't score in double digits. So far, that is 86 straight games where no team was able to truly stop Hidalgo from getting to the basket.
Hidalgo truly doesn't get the recognition she deserves for the type of play she has on the court. She may not be the big names like Lauren Betts or Azzi Fudd, but Hidalgo certainly can compete well against those players. Hidalgo's career to this point definitely gets taken for granted, but she certainly doesn't have a problem with it, as she is simply putting her head down and competing with her team.
