What was supposed to be a breakout season for Notre Dame wide receiver Jaden Greathouse has hit yet another roadblock.
During his Thursday press conference, Marcus Freeman delivered some injury news for the Fighting Irish as they head into Saturday's contest with North Carolina State. On the good side, the head coach believes the team will have starting kicker Noah Burnette back. However, ND still listed Burnette as questionable, officially.
Jaden Greathouse injury leaves Notre Dame football shorthanded again against NC State
The bad news for Notre Dame is that Greathouse is once again "out" against the Wolfpack. The announcement comes after he missed last week's game against Boise State with the same right hamstring injury.
The question now is whether Greathouse will be able to come close to putting up the kind of season everyone expected of him in 2025. Following last year's playoffs, where he showed up early and often, fans and analysts alike felt as though the wide receiver was due to break out this fall.
The junior pass catcher was held without a reception against Miami to start the year and was only able to log 2 receptions for 41 yards against Texas A&M and 2 receptions for 32 yards against Arkansas. He was also shut out against Purdue. And then he missed the game entirely against Boise and will miss North Carolina State.
Greathouse isn't the only bad news injury-wise coming from the Irish. Defensive back Devonta Smith is also officially out against the ACC opponent. Smith has battled through injuries already this year and is missing his second straight game with a right calf problem.
Once again, the Notre Dame football team will enter a big game without some of its best players. The good news is that at this point, the crew is quite used to finding a way to win despite these starters being on the field.
