Notre Dame has officially seen its first player selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, and to the surprise of absolutely no one, it was running back Jeremiyah Love. The star back was projected as a top 10 pick, but there were questions about his falling back due to other needs for teams.

It seems the Arizona Cardinals were the team ready to get a star on their hands as they selected Love with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Love and his family's reaction to his selection is everything Notre Dame fans were hoping for, and the star back even made a point to shout out the Irish.

Wherever Jeremiyah Love was going to go, that team was going to get a leader for on and off the field. This is a player who eats, sleeps, and breathes football, so the Cardinals got a guy who will step in and be a leader for everyone.

Love made sure to let fans of the Cardinals, Notre Dame, and running backs know that he is planning to show out in the NFL, and that is a promise.

Notre Dame star sends a message Irish fans should love

"I mean, it’s just a blessing,” Love said on being the first RB to be taken in the Top 5 since 2018. “I feel very honored to represent the running backs, and I’m going to put on for them. I’m going to put on for all football players, I’m going to put on for Notre Dame, and I’m going to put on for my family. Lastly, I’m going to put on for the Cardinals. We’re going to do some special things together.”

Love is ready to get going, but he is going to have to wait a few more months before he can fully suit up for the Cardinals. It will all start with rookie camps and then training camp later in the summer. However, if there is one thing Notre Dame fans know about Love, it is that he will make plays, and the Cardinals better be ready to have a star on their hands.
