Despite an impressive hot streak on the recruiting front since the beginning of April, even the Notre Dame football team can suffer a loss here and there. Such a loss was definitely dealt to the Fighting Irish on Sunday when wide receiver Kohen Brown pulled the trigger for the Texas Longhorns.

The commitment was first announced by Hayes Fawcett and going to the SEC school means that he’s committed to a school for the second time in just a few months. Perhaps that’s just one reason why losing the battle for him isn’t a total loss.

Kohen Brown commits to Texas over Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Utah despite late Irish push

Brown is a 3-star receiver out of Texas who decommitted from USC last month and the Fighting Irish almost immediately pounced and tried to steal him away from the Trojans.

The prospect, out of Waxahachie (Waxahachie, TX) decided to stay home with the Longhorns rather than even take an official visit to South Bend. The Notre Dame football team had been hoping they could get him to campus and show why he should wear the Blue and Gold for his college days.

The recruiting loss is one of those “can’t win ‘em all” moments and certainly isn’t the kind of blow that the Irish have suffered in the past when it comes to losing highly-touted receivers. However, that  Brown chose the Longhorns over Utah, Notre Dame and Ole Miss might be a bit painful simply because none of those schools had been hard after him for all that long.

Notre Dame football has plenty of other top prospects on its radar in June. Kohen Brown would have been a nice addition, but he’s not someone Marcus Freeman had to have in order to make the recruiting class one of its best.
