After a couple unofficial visits led to his Notre Dame commit, Jonaz Walton was excited about returning to South Bend for his official visit earlier this month. Marcus Freeman and company were also plenty of excited, surely considering it’s that time of year when teams are locking down commits but also working hard to flip them.
Walton noticed that while he’s still very much committed to the Fighting Irish, there were things he didn’t even realize were available. “We had a lot of downtime, so me and my mom, we walked around the campus and we saw a lot more,” he recently told Irish Sports Daily. “It was different because in the past, it was all snowed in and looks a lot smaller. We were able to see a lot more of the campus.”
Jonaz Walton says summer visit solidified his love for Notre Dame
Just in case Notre Dame football fans think that his comments about the campus mean that he was left unimpressed.
“It's still my favorite campus that I've been to so far. I've visited some great ones, but it is really great, outstanding. That's one of my favorite campuses. But being able to see it again in the summer/spring, it is amazing. Definitely my favorite one. I'm so excited to be able to walk through there and experience it for the next four years.”
There was another thing the Notre Dame football running back commit loved about getting to really spend time on South Bend.
“Being able to sit down with Coach Freeman, just chopping it up again, seeing how it's been. Not really too much about football,” he said. “He's a great guy. It was just cool being able to talk to him about everything, about how great Notre Dame is, seeing him and just being able to catch up and everything.”
