While the Notre Dame football team is busy wrapping up its 2025 recruiting class, there are other things that Irish fans are worried about. Right at the top of that list, is keeping Marcus Freeman on board amid rumors that the Chicago Bears are giving him a long, hard look.

Since head coach Matt Eberflus was fired on Black Friday, Freeman has been mentioned more than a few times for the job. He’s a young up and coming coach who has managed to win a lot of big games for the Irish. He’s also someone who managed to lead the Blue and Gold to the playoffs despite a loss to Northern Illinois.

While the new rumors are the same as the old ones, it looks like Vegas is buying into the talk at least a little bit as well. The Notre Dame football head coach is among the odds on favorites to get the job according to BetOnline.

Perhaps the good news for the Irish is that while Freeman is on the list, not quite right at the top. Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury currently has the best odds at 3.5/1 to get the job. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is in second place at 4/1 odds.

Freeman and former Titans coach Mike Vrable are tied for third best odds at 5/1 and then a long list of longer shots follow:

  • Todd Monken (5.5/1)
  • Thomas Brown (9/1)
  • Bill Belichick (12/1)
  • Joe Brady (12/1)
  • Bobby Slowik (14/1)
  • Lincoln Riley (16/1)
  • Lane Kiffin (25/1)
  • Brian Flores (25/1)
  • Jesse Minter (25/1)
  • Jim Schwartz (25/1)
  • Deion Sanders (25/1)
  • Matt Campbell (33/1)
  • Matt Rhule (40/1)

While it feels like there’s plenty of names on this list that shouldn’t be taken seriously, Notre Dame football fans are going to need to pay close attention to this for the next few weeks.
