Notre Dame junior wide receiver Jaden Greathouse has certainly seen his fair share of adversity this season. Greathouse has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury since the end of September that has kept him out and constantly on the injury report.

The injury was so bad at one point, doctors had to drain out the built-up blood, and he was completely unavailable for many games. Greathouse, now, however, is finally off the injury report, but it doesn't look like the Fighting Irish may use him for the rest of the season.

Head coach Marcus Freeman spoke about why Greathouse may not see the field this season, and it makes a lot of sense. Freeman is just trying to look out for his guys in this situation.

Jaden Greathouse is still eligible to redshirt this season

Jaden Greathouse has only played in two games this season, making his career debut in a Notre Dame uniform against Texas A&M, and then played the next game against Arkansas before going out with a hamstring injury.

Greathouse only has four receptions for 73 touchdowns and no touchdowns. However, before the season, Greathouse was projected to be a freshman standout, so to go out with an injury so soon was a hit to the offense.

Head coach Marcus Freeman spoke about Greathouse's injury, though, or now the lack thereof of as he is off the injury report, but it doesn't seem that even though the young freshman is healthy, he will see the field again this season unless absolutely necessary.

"We have two games left, and if we don't have to play him, it would give him another year," Freeman said. "He didn't redshirt, so we want to be able to do that."

Freeman knows that he has players on his team, but those players are people, and if he can give Greathouse another year, he will. However, on the flip side, if something were to happen to a wide receiver, Freeman knows that he may have to play Greathouse and potentially lose his redshirt.

The Notre Dame coach did say, though, that Greathouse would bet he first to raise his hand to go in if need be, which just speaks volumes of how much these guys love playing for Freeman and would do anything for him.
