Frustrating Notre Dame season on the sidelines continues vs Pitt for CFP hero

2025 was supposed to be the breakout season for Jaden Greathouse. It's long been clear that wasn't going to be the story for the Notre Dame star. The question now is whether he'll get to play again this season after being downgraded to out once again against Pitt.

Greathouse has just 4 catches this year. He last had two receptions against Arkansas. He hasn't touched the ball since. Earlier this week, Irish head coach Marcus Freeman made it clear it was unlikely Greathouse would play against the Panthers. Thursday's injury report made it official.

"JG is putting in so much work on trying to get that hamstring to where it needs to go, where it needs to be," the Notre Dame coach said on Monday. "Last week, we had to extract some blood from his hamstring just because it's part of the healing process. Blood buildup, you have to extract it and continue to get that muscle stronger."

"Mentally, he’s been in a good place," Freeman added. "He’s as frustrated as anybody. He wants to be out there. We have just to keep working and then we’ll see what happens here in the next days, weeks, depending on how he heals."

Greathouse gave the Irish some hope last week when he went through early warmups with his fellow receivers before the last game against Navy, but he switched to street clothes once the team returned for formal preparations.

Should he not be able to return during the regular season, he would keep a year of eligibility as he's appeared in the minimum number of games. The question is, of course, would he stay at Notre Dame or look for a fresh start elsewhere?
