Just because a player leaves the program, it doesn't mean they are simply forgotten about or don't matter.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has shown time and time again that he is a stand-up guy, from the way he has welcomed recruits into his home to how humble he is, even being the head coach of a major football program.

Now, Freeman is showing that, especially in this day in age of college sports, when a player leaves a program, specifically the Notre Dame football program, they are not forgotten about. Former Notre Dame cornerback Jaden Mickey suffered a scary concussion against Appalachian State, and while he is doing better, it certainly was a scary situation to see.

Freeman spoke about Mickey in his most recent press conference, speaking about how happy he is that Mickey is recovering well, but also stating why he cares so much.

"These guys, they’re not cars, you don’t rent them for a couple years and then when they leave, that’s it," Freeman said. "You sold ‘em, it’s done, these are relationships that last forever."

This just shows the type of person that Freeman is; he will always care about every player that has come through his program, whether they were there for one year or four years. He has created relationships with these guys. Granted, the car analogy is certainly an interesting one to use, but it still gets his point across.

Mickey was injured on a kickoff late in the third quarter when he went for a tackle on the return and collided with one of his teammates in a scary manner. Mickey had to be taken off the field on a stretcher in what was a lengthy delay and was taken right to a nearby hospital. Mickey waved a hand to the crowd before leaving the field, which was welcomed by cheers.

Freeman is always going to care for his guys and this type of response just shows that.
