“The Dodd Trophy, college football’s most coveted coaching award, honors the head football coach whose program embodies the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity, while also having success on the playing field throughout the season.”

The organization that hands out the award explained in a release.

Freeman has led the Notre Dame football team to an 12-1 record so far this season and a No. 5 College Football Playoff ranking, along with a No. 3 ranking in the Associated Press and Coaches Polls.
