Spring ball is beginning soon for Notre Dame, but Marcus Freeman is keeping himself busy until then on the recruiting trail. The Irish have been a popular option among recruits so far in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and now Freeman could land another top recruit.
Five-star cornerback John Meredith III has narrowed his list of schools down to six, and the Irish were able to make the cut along with Ohio State, Alabama, Texas A&M, Miami, and Texas. The Texas native is ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in the class and a top-three recruit according to Rivals recruiting, and would be a huge addition to the team he picks.

5-star CB John Meredith III names Notre Dame in final 6 schools
Marcus Freeman has done a great job building the 2027 recruiting class at Notre Dame, but if he can land John Meredith III, it would be a huge addition to the secondary that needs help in the future. With Leonard Moore heading to the NFL soon, potentially as soon as after next season, Freeman could use a talented leader in the secondary.
Moore was able to step in as a freshman and make a difference on the Notre Dame defense, and Meredith could have that same effect. Meredith has the ability to step into the same position as Moore and take over the secondary in South Bend.
Freema is battling the usual suspects for Meredith's commitment. While Ohio State, Texas, and other teams have a lot to offer, so does Notre Dame, and Freeman has a way of getting guys in the building and keeping them there until they head to the NFL.
