After losing out on five-star tight end Jaxon Dollar to Georgia on Thursday, Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame quickly got back in the win column with a commitment from four-star EDGE rusher Aidan O'Neil.
O'Neil committed to the Irish over Kentucky and Penn State, in a win that will be big for Notre Dame's future defense. Notre Dame really wanted to land O'Neil, and the EDGE rusher proved it with a great quote about defensive line coach Charlie Partridge.
"He played a huge role in my decision," O'Neil said shortly after announcing his commitment. "He’s a genius when it comes to the D-line. He’s going to help me get to where I need to go. He said that I was a can’t-miss target.”

Partridge has been busy out recruiting for the Irish this offseason, but O'Neil, so far, is the only defensive lineman to choose Notre Dame. It would be a shock if it remains that way, though, with the recruiting minds of Partridge and Freeman working together.
Freeman definitely helps lead the charge when it comes to recruiting, but having coaches like Partiridge that can help make a recruit feel special and seal the deal is what makes Notre Dame such a tough school to recruit against.
O'Neil felt like he was really wanted at Notre Dame, with Partridge telling him he was a 'can't miss' recruit. The four-star EDGE rusher is ranked as the No. 73 player in the Class of 2027, the No. 9 EDGE rusher in the country, and the No. 3 player in the state of New Jersey, according to 247Sports.
The Irish now have the No. 8 recruiting class in 2027 by 247Sports rankings, and the heat of the recruiting season is only just beginning. Freeman still has a lot of players he is after, and with official visits beginning soon, Notre Dame could get a lot of good news.
