The Notre Dame basketball team suffered yet another loss to Clemson on Wednesday night. However, just a few hours before the Irish took another hit in the loss column, they took a hit for the rest of the season.
It turns out that Micah Shrewsberry and company will have to finish out the season, however long or short that is, without one of the top scorers on the squad. In other words, a season went sideways quickly, just took another turn.
Notre Dame basketball loses top player for rest of the season
Just ahead of the Notre Dame basketball game against Clemson, the Notre Dame basketball program announced that Braeden Shrewsberry is out for the rest of the year.
Shrewsberry reportedly suffered a lower abdomen strain in the blowout loss to SMU. The good news is that the guard won’t need surgery.
However, the training staff and coaches decided that the injury was serious enough that he needed to be shut downf for the rest of the season.

“I’m crushed that I can’t be out on the court right now during this final push of the regular season, but I plan on supporting my teammates in any way possible from the sideline,” Shrewsberry said, according to the official news release. “I also want to take this time to thank the Notre Dame community for all the love and support this season. Go Irish.”
Shrewsberry, the son of the Notre Dame basketball team’s head coach, was the third leading scorer for this season. He was averaging 14 points per contest this season after averaging just over 10 points per contest last year.
