Jalen Haralson won't be with Notre Dame next season. At least he also won't be following in the footsteps of Markus Burton and joining Indiana. Instead, the former Fighting Irish small forward is off to the SEC and Rocky Top.
On Thursday afternoon, On3 analyst Joe Tipton was among the first to reveal that Haralson committed to Tennessee. The commitment was hardly a surprise, as the forward had previously visited Knoxville and seemed to love the experience.
"I love the weather," the former Notre Dame star told Rocky Top Insider just before committing. "Coach Barnes is real transparent, so all those things as well. I loved it."

Jalen Haralson commits to Tennessee after leaving Notre Dame basketball in the portal
"He wants to win a national championship, so that’s the goal for him," Haralson said about Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes. "Like, he obviously wants the players to do it and he feels like I’m one of those players."
Haralson is coming off a freshman season where he averaged 16.2 points, four rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for the Fighting Irish. He was expected to team up with Burton and lead a resurgent Notre Dame basketball team. Unfortunately, Burton was injured early in the season, and Haralson had to try to carry the team on his back as it logged yet another losing record under head coach Micah Shrewsberry.
The 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward has an extremely versatile skillset that allows him to play multiple positions. Haralson did not shoot the ball well from the perimeter this past season, but was stout at handling the basketball and scoring at the rim. Despite shooting just 20% from beyond the arc, he hit 51.5% of his shots overall.
With Haralson committing, the Big 3 who left Notre Dame when the Transfer Portal opened have all found new homes. Earlier this week, Cole Certa landed at Clemson. That all three landed at major programs is another reminder about how much talent is leaving South Bend and how much needs to be replaced.
