It’s bad enough that Markus Burton left Notre Dame. It would be infinitely annoying if the star guard ended up staying in the state and becoming an Indiana Hoosier. And yet, there is at least a chance of such an occurrence as he’s expected to pay a visit to the Big Ten school in the very near future.
According to Alec Lasley, Burton has scheduled a visit with the Hoosiers. This development may be more significant than some Fighting Irish fans anticipate, as Burton is an Indiana native. He may want to stay close to home while seeking a better fit for his college basketball career.
Markus Burton has played three seasons at Notre Dame, including an injury-shortened third year in which he only appeared in 10 games. He’s got at least one year of remaining eligibility, and likely two if he can get a medical hardship waiver for the 2025-26 season. That waiver is almost a certainty, though he also has NBA dreams and could enter the draft after the upcoming season if he remains healthy and posts his usual numbers.

Notre Dame basketball fans may not love Markus Burton’s reported Indiana visit
First and foremost, Burton is a scorer. He has averaged 17.5 or more points all three of his college seasons, including 21.3 per game in 2024-25. He also averaged 30.3 points per game as a high school senior at Penn H.S. in northern Indiana, where he won Mr. Basketball in 2023.
However, he’s hardly only a scorer. Playing almost exclusively the point guard position, he averaged 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
It’s not a given that the former Notre Dame star will end up in Bloomington. Reports also indicate that Markus Burton will be visiting Houston this week. For purely petty reasons, it would be nice to see him end up with the Big 12 school rather than Indiana.
