On the eve of the second set of College Football Playoff rankings, Miami fans aren't exactly letting the fact that Notre Dame got into the field in the first set, while the Hurricanes didn't make the cut. It's not just fans, in fact, that aren't letting it go. On Monday, the ACC Football official Twitter account picked a side, and it picked Mario Christobal and Co.
Usually, that choice wouldn't be all that surprising. After all, Miami is a full-fledged member of the conference. However, it's not so simple since the Fighting Irish are members of the conference in several different sports, including basketball.
ACC takes sides between Notre Dame football and Miami and Irish fans aren't happy
That's why when the account posted "No hypotheticals just facts" and then laid out "Team A," which is Miami, and ranked No. 18 in the College Football playoff standings, and "Team B," which is Notre Dame, ranked No. 10 in the same standings.
It then continued with a graphic showing that the 'Canes won a head-to-head matchup while both teams are 7-2. The post also laid out that Miami had more Top 25 wins and a better strength of record. And despite all of that, the Irish made the field, and so far, the Hurricanes haven't.
Notre Dame fans were amused and more than a little enraged that the ACC account, which isn't all that active and doesn't have that many followers, jumped into the fight after that fight went on for almost a week. And of course, taking sides in a fight that is essentially two ACC teams.
Once again, end the ACC agreement. The fact we let these clowns ref most of our games is mind numbing. https://t.co/n34gUGj1qs

More than a few fans aren't thrilled about ACC officials calling Notre Dame games if they're taking a side in a rankings issue like this. The implication of course is that with the Irish playing Pitt, an ACC team things might be rather one-sided.
ACC officials Saturday against Pitt are going to be a PROBLEM. https://t.co/TqK4aSNtXr

Others just think the conference is jumping into the fight far too late and with the wrong approach
Not the ACC trying to do way too late CFP conference propaganda from an account that has fewer than 100k followers https://t.co/3G879uTBi0

Others think the post just makes the ACC look even more pathetic than it already did.
Believe it or not, this makes the ACC look more pathetic https://t.co/ca4ucgM763

There is a real issue with the ACC fighting this fight while Notre Dame continues playing football games against teams in the conference as part of a longstanding agreement. This fight could boil over into the basketball and baseball season as well, if something smells hinky on Saturday. None of this was well thought out.
