Leonard Moore is considered one of the best defensive backs in the sport. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish star was reminded of that when he was named a finalist on the Jim Thorpe Award Watch List. The award is given annually to the best defensive back in college football, based on on-field performance, athletic ability, and character.
- Moore was a finalist for the award in 2025, joining cornerback Bobby Taylor in 1993 and cornerback Todd Lyght in 1989 as the three Thorpe Award finalists in Notre Dame history. A unanimous All-American last season, Moore started 10 games for the Irish and led the team with five interceptions, the seventh-most in the country. He added 31.0 total tackles, forced one fumble and broke up seven passes.
- Curt Cignetti doesn't want anyone to know it, but it's clear that Notre Dame has gotten under his skin. That was obvious yet again earlier this week when he talked about wanting to play the Fighting Irish in a new series, though he wanted to secure two home games for the Hoosiers and only one for the Golden Domers.
- The reason Cignetti gave for why IU should get two home games? “They ought to come to our place twice, and we’ll go there once, since they’re not in a conference.” It’s just the latest big talk from a coach who is 0-1 against the Fighting Irish in his career.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish injuries change everything
- Last year, Guerby Lambert played right guard for most of the season. That was a bit of a surprise when the move was announced; however, he eventually settled in. Still, this year, he’s back to right tackle and feels much more “at home” at the position.
- “I’m a lot more comfortable, especially in pass pro,” Lambert told the media after a recent practice. “I was able to learn a lot at guard, especially the physicality of the game. Playing guard helped me a lot.”
- Jeremiyah Love had a fantastic debut for the Arizona Cardinals in his first preseason game. However, he suffered an ankle injury in that game. Now it looks like he might be out for a while. Head coach Mike LaFleur said he doesn’t know just how long the rookie running back will be out, but it sounds like Week 1 is in doubt.

The game is officially sold out, and tickets on the second-hand market are going for a minimum of $600. The most expensive ticket was priced at $20,000 yesterday, and it’s entirely possible it sold.
- The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s soccer team will attempt to have a better second match of the season than their first. Considered a national title contender as the No. 2 team in the country, they tied their first match, 0-0, and take on Penn State on Sunday afternoon.
