Notre Dame Fighting Irish nation holds it breath over Markus Burton injury
Star Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball guard Markus Burton has someone gotten off to a better start to this season than he did last year. That’s why the potential of losing him for any amount of time beyond Tuesday night is the stuff of nightmares.
And yet, after Burton had to leave the latest game very early on, there is definite concern over just how bad he is hurt. What’s clear is that he’s done for the night against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, but shots of him on the bench don’t look particularly encouraging.
Burton exited Tuesday night’s game with an apparent knee injury. Later in the game, while there was no update to offer, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish star was shot sitting at the end of the bench with his leg propped up. He was out of his uniform and sitting in a way that seemed to indicate he was given some news that Blue and Gold fans aren’t going to like.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish star guard out for Rutgers game after knee injury
Markus Burton isn’t merely the best player on the Irish. He’s one of the best players in the ACC.
So far this year, he’s averaged 21.4 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game. All of those numbers are higher than what he finished with in a stellar freshman season.
At the time of writing, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team is holding a 35-34 halftime lead over Rutgers towards the end of the first half. However, it’s a safe bet they’re far more worried about the status of Markus Burton for the rest of the week and the season.
