Brendan Sorsby and Texas Tech took the "most hated" crown away from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish this summer when they showed that neither the player nor the program have much respect for the game as an entity. One of the oddest parts about this story however, was the the Cincinnati Bearcats were somehow completely escaping anyone holding them responsible for reportedly knowing that Sorsby bet on games while he was with UC. They also reportedly even knew he bet on Indiana when he was with the Hoosiers at the beginning of his career.

Now that Texas Tech and Sorsby have parted ways and the quarterback knows he won't be playing professional football until next year at the earliest, it looks like things are starting to turn in the direction of the Bearcats.

On Wednesday, Yahoo Sports reported that The NCAA has sent a letter of inquiry to the University of Cincinnati related to Sorsby's time at the school. While the site noted that an inquiry letter is not uncommon and doesn't necessarily signal wrongdoing, it is often the start of an investigative process over possible rules violations, one that often is a collaborative effort with the school itself. This will certainly be something to watch moving forward.

Notre Dame may be closing in on first 2028 offensive line pledge

The Notre Dame football team could be about to get its first 2028 offensive line commit after locking down at least six in the 2027 class. On Wednesday, On3 analysts started rolling out their predictions including one for the Fighting Irish.

Among them was Kajus Muralis for the Fighting Irish. Though it should be pointed out that even the Rivals analyst doesn't have a great deal of confidence, so this prediction is more an "eventually" than imminent. Granted, there have been plenty of 2028 athletes pulling the trigger on their pledges in the last few weeks. That includes Andre Jones and Owen Davies both committing to Marcus Freeman and Co. in June.

  • The Notre Dame football team's relationship with Julian Bruno is in the early stages. However, after the Fighting Irish gave Bruno an offer, it's clear that the two sides are really hitting it off. "My reaction was excitement," Bruno told Irish Sports Daily not long after receiving the offer. "I was extremely happy and the first thing I did was go to my dad's room and tell him the news." This will be an interesting recruiting chase to watch over the next year.
  • Jordan Faison could be poised for a very big year. CBS Sports' Mike Renner recently predicted that the wide receiver could be a first round pick in next spring's 2027 NFL Draft. Jordan Faison originally walked on to Notre Dame, in part because he wanted to focus on playing both football and lacrosse. While he was immensely successful at both, he eventually received a scholarship from Marcus Freeman and Co. and decided he saw a path to the NFL as a full-time wide receiver. Renner agrees.
  • With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish playing in Lambeau Field to open the 2026 season as part of the Shamrock Series, the school rolled out new uniforms for the game. Alongside the uniforms, they put out a video narrated by Marcus Freeman that highlights Notre Dame's ties to the Green Bay Packers. "For a century, our stories have been stitched together -- from the 'Golden Boy' Paul Hornung winning titles in both colors to the Notre Dame box formation that defined the early days of Green Bay," Freeman said. "We are the outliers. The small town legends. The independent spirits who believe tradition isn't just something you remember. It's something you wear."
