Notre Dame Fighting Irish News: Narduzzi's nonsense, Giant scare, more

Could the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have to enter the coaching carousel after all?

With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish heading to Pittsburgh and being joined by ESPN for College GameDay, there's more focus on the tilt with the Panthers. That's especially the case considering it's now a bout between two ranked teams. Most people would agree it's a big game. Except for Panthers' coach Pat Narduzzi.

Narduzzi gave one whopper of an answer to the question about how important Saturday afternoon's game is for his program and their hunt for a College Football Playoff berth.

Q: "Do you feel like the Notre Dame game is a must-win?"

Narduzzi: "Absolutely not. It is not an ACC game…I’d gladly get beat 103 or 110 to 10…They could put 100 up on us as long as we win the next two after that."

That's certainly an interesting way to answer a question and get the team fired up. Never mind, it's entirely inaccurate.

Marcus Freeman gets mentioned as new New York Giants coach

On Monday afternoon, the New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll. It took no time at all for Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman to get mentioned as a candidate for the job.

For now, it's just a few beat writers talking about the possibility of Freeman being a candidate. One has to wonder what happens if New York decides to really pursue the Irish coach.

  • Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire was rather grumpy about the idea that the Big 12 would only get one team into the College Football Playoffs. When he was asked about potentially knocking BYU out, he instead complained about Notre Dame being an independent. It's that time of year where coaches complain about the Irish because they know Notre Dame is better.
  • The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are also about to go on a heater recruiting wise. On3 has predicted that Xavier Hasan, Garyon Hobbs, and Khalil Terry will eventually commit to Marcus Freeman's squad. All three are top rated 2027 prospects.
