The Notre Dame Fighting Irish swim program is finally moving forward for real after several years of turmoil and even a firing and a suspension. On Thursday a new era officially began in South Bend.

Notre Dame named Michael Norment as the program’s Head Swimming & Diving Coach, Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua announced. Norment joins the program spending this past swim season as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs.

“Notre Dame’s deep tradition, passionate fans and place at the forefront of college academics and athletics made this an attractive job for me,” Norment said in a statement after joining the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. “The interactions I had during the interview process solidified my desire to make the move to South Bend. When you step on campus, it is obvious that Notre Dame strives for excellence in everything it does, whether it is in the classroom, in the pool or in every interaction the prestigious university has across the country and across the globe. I can’t wait to hit the ground running and build on that tradition.”

Notre Dame Fighting Irish score a second tight end commit in a week

Marcus Freeman’s recruiting heater continued on Thursday as he continued to rack up commitments at positions that need an influx of talent. On Thursday, the Notre Dame football team got its second tight end commit of the week in Ian Premer. The 4-star prospect joins 3-star commit Preston Fryzel, who gave his pledge earlier this week. Most impressive is that it doesn’t appear the Blue and Gold are done.

While much of the focus has been on the quarterback position heading into 2025, the offensive line is starting to receive more attention. That includes attention from ESPN analyst Greg McElroy, who believes the Irish will have the best offensive line in the entire country. He’s not the only one who has said that about Joe Rudolph’s crew.
